1907 SPRING - informal meetings begin in homes of founders June 19 - first of several meeting with Rev. Lauritz Styrkard Justin Reque (other meetings on July 10, July 29, August 28, September 18, October 2, October 20, October 23, November 13, & December 1) June 23 - first Lutheran worship service in Bristol township (other worships in 1907 were July 14, August 11, September 1) July 29 - incorporation papers signed July 30 - incorporation papers filed December 14 - Agreement to purchase building & lot from the Methodist-Episcopal church for $1200 1908 January 5th - First time Rev. Johan Arnd Aasgaard preached to this group January 13th - Constitution adopted and name given: "First Lutheran Church of Bristol" Voted to call Rev. Aasgaard as pastor February 9th - first worship service conducted by Rev. J. A. Aasgaard March 8th - first time communion is served by Rev. Aasgaard June 16th - warranty deed received from Methodist-Episcopal church December - Altar purchased in Chicago 1909 March 20th - Palm Sunday, Dedicated Altar (current) October 31st - Reformation Sunday, Church building dedicated by Rev. Gerhard Rasmussen and congregation officially accepted as member of United Norwegian Lutheran Church 1911 August 27th - Confirmation, First Communion, & farewell to Rev. Aasgaard (photo taken of the whole group outside of church Rev. Christian S. Thompson of Oconomowoc served until 1914 1912 Present bell bought by Ladies' Aid & Young People's Societies November 2nd - Purchased Additional land (SW Corner) of the church for cemetery use from Mr. & Mrs. A. A. Dahle (members) 1914 Rev. Peter Emil Nelson served until 1916 1917 Merger of three Lutheran synods, United Norwegian Lutheran, Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran, and the Hauges Synod Lutheran churches (Rev. L. S. J. Reque, Rev. Extensive repairs to basement Cement Floor laid and two exits provided 1928 Twentieth Anniversary Festival celebrated 1936 Steeple roof shingled 1937 Installed first furnace Sanctuary insulated by covering walls and ceiling with celotex boards 1938 Improvements in Auditorium (basement) Church wired for electricity 1940 Floor carpeted 1945 Repaired roof and painted outside of the church 1947 40th Anniversary Addition of Sacristy and kitchen Central entry with an outside vestibule Installed oil burning furnace 1948 November 14th - Rededication 1949 Church windows redone October 24th - A new constitution adopted Name changed to "Bristol Lutheran Church" 1950 Original church pews redone 1952 Two parcels of land - North and South Side of church purchased for cemetery facilities and parking Grading and gravel for new parking lot 1953 New lights and repairs in Auditorium (old Fellowship Hall) Gravel for parking Installation of running water and water heater in kitchen (now the 'mechanical' room) 1954 Sacristy made into two rooms 1955 Installed bathrooms and different furnace Rededicated church Auditorium (basement) 1957 50th Anniversary celebrated 1959 Storm windows added in the Sanctuary 1960-1 New floor and carpeting in Chancel Repair work including painting of the exterior and interior of the church Current pews bought 1962 55th Anniversary - September 30 Two more acres purchased for expansion purposes August 19th - Land consecrated for expanded cemetery use Aluminum siding put on church 1964 New furnace for church basement 1971 The addition of: Balcony and steeple, large attractive narthex and new roof and aluminum siding put on Red carpeting in Sanctuary installed October 10 - Rededication 1972 Lightning destroys steeple Outside of church resided and shutters put on 1974 Changes in Constitution approved Gravel added to front parking lot and graded Christ statue repainted 1975 About 1/2 acre of land donated by Stanley and Elmer Moe (Driveway from Hwy N straight back and around to Happy Valley Road) 1976 February - Mortgage burning service Summer - Trees and Shrubs in front of church planted 1977 Summer - Remodeled Christian Education Fellowship Center Industrial Heating unit installed October 2nd - Rededicated Entire building 1978 Hardwood floors refinished and sealed in sanctuary and sacristy New Water heater installed at the church 1980 Drilled first well Church converted from oil to natural gas 1981 Improvements included: Gravel laid in parking lot, North side windows in sanctuary painted and redone East windows in balcony repaired 1982 Painting and repair work in balcony and bell tower Bathrooms, entry way and narthex painted Trim work and repair in Sacristy Filling in South of Church with top soil and ground leveling High winds turned cross 90 degrees (facing North of Church) 75th Anniversary celebrated - September 25th - 26th 1983 Exit Lights installed in church basement 1984 Installed Public address (sound) system 1985 Installed Ceiling fans in Sanctuary Handicapped parking area set aside 1986 Ratified New Constitution 1989 New furnace installed in old fellowship hall 1991 Building Fund drive 1992 Building addition and expansion started and completed: Enlarged Sanctuary and Sacristy Added offices and classrooms Kitchen and fellowship hall Elevator and handicapped entrance New bathrooms (Handicapped accessible) New septic (mound) system Sidewalks and outside light fixtures Two new furnaces installed Expanded parking lot 1993 Refurbished old fellowship hall and classrooms Refinished pews Painted Christ statue Stained glass window installed in entrance of new addition April 25th - Dedication of Building Addition May - Flowering crab tree planted near entrance of the church. June - Hail damaged siding, roof, broke windows on SW side of church and caused the cross on the steeple to be lost. July - Sod and trees planted in front of addition. September - Repainted the church bell tower Bushes, shrubs and trees around the front and side of new addition 1994 January - installed stained panels in the side windows of the balcony. July - Old Kitchen converted into a Sunday School Storage room. September - Backstop was installed in Township park by church access road. November - Wireless microphone installed. Damaged windows & siding from the (July 1993) hail storm were replaced. 1995 March - Completed refinishing the pews. June - Repaired South side of roof (damaged by July 1993 hail storm. New eaves on South side of church Completed Landscaping the front entrance (between old and new). Finished sidewalk north side of addition. July - Parking lot black topped and striped. 1996 August 10 - Sun Prairie Fire Department put up new cross. August 24 - Tore down front fence with intention of replacing in future. Finished landscaping on north and west sides of church and south end of parking lot. 1997 May - Wall mounted Confirmation Pictorial completed. July - Installed white fence in front of church. 1998 Chimney tuck-pointed. Storm damage repaired. Painted sanctuary. August - Installed glass doors on old entrance. October - Celebrated 90th Anniversary of Bristol Lutheran Church. 1999 Well replaced due to high nitrate concentration, Altar painted, Restoration of bell & bell tower, Restoration of foundation, Closed south-side entrance, Tract lighting installed by choir, Water filter installed to take out iron. 2000 Sound system upgraded, Parking lot sealed & restriped, Old furnace dismantled & removed, Some trees removed. 2002 Added an oak cabinet in the sanctuary for our music program. 2003 Purchased Yamaha keyboard. Put a pass-through from classroom into kitchen. Painted classrooms. Replaced all carpeting in lower level with vinyl flooring. Repainted all of lower level.
