Habitat for Humanity Women Build Project There is a Habitat for Humanity Women Build Project taking place in the Twin Oaks subdivision, which is near the intersection of Hwy 51 and Hwy 12/18. I have registered to gather a group of 8 women to work at this site on August 23 - 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No skills are necessary, just a desire to help a family obtain safe and affordable housing! Please contact me by email or cell phone ASAP if you are interested in being a part of this wonderful opportunity. I’ll register everyone online and send info to you about a week ahead of time. ELCA Domestic Disaster Response is at the forefront when disaster strikes, mobilizing care in those early, crucial hours. We make a commitment to be there for the long haul, providing emotional and spiritual care, helping with clean-up, providing hardship grants, and participating in rebuilding efforts. Your gift designated to this year’s floods and tornadoes in the Midwest will be used in full – 100% - to walk with disaster survivors on the road to recovery. The wounds these floods and tornadoes have inflicted are deep. THANK YOU for your generous gifts and prayers for healing.
Church World Service and its partners are responding to the disasters in Myanmar and China by providing water, blankets, and other much needed items. To make a donation or to find out more, please visit our website: www.churchworldservice.org
I have got 45 school bags ready and 20 more to finish. I am getting the out early so you can take advantage of the sales. My prayer is that every one of them will get filled. There is a greater need than ever. Contrary to thought, some are distributed in the United States. Also, the Health Kits are needed. What would you do without a bar of soap, a toothbrush, and a towel to wipe you dry? Many people do not have these luxuries. We are very thankful to Wendy Baker for all of the batting she gave us for the quilts. It really helped. By the looks of things we will not get our 300+ quilts made this year. We are short of help and material. Can you HELP us out? Don’t forget the Food Pantry – the need is great! God Bless! Alice Bakke Lutheran World Relief SCHOOL BAGS are available in the narthex.

LABELS, CAPS, & BOX TOPSfor Westside SchoolLABELS – Campbell’s labels CAPS – either purple with a cow or "Nickels for Schools" with a cow BOX TOPS for Education – from cereals, flour, some prepared foods, toilet-paper, etc. These are worth $.10 each.
Many products have them but people don't realize it. LOOK FOR THEM and deposit them in the box that’s located on the table in the narthex (bottom shelf). Ann Schwanke will take them to Westside School. Ann is also taking the Sentry receipts to Sentry for a 1% reimbursement in the “Funds for Friends” program. Every so often we receive a check from Sentry. Then Bristol Lutheran Church gives the money to the SUN PRAIRIE EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY. You may ask, “What’s my part?” Ask for a ‘sticker’ upon checkout at Sentry, which the cashier will place on your receipt. Then bring the receipts to church and place them in the box provided in the narthex. Likewise, the “We Care” program at Pick’n Save gives back 1% which BLC gives to the pantry. In this program you do a one-time registry at the service desk using your Pick’n Save card (our charity code number is 074000) and the percentage is automatically earmarked for BLC. When we receive a check from them, we give all of the money to the pantry.
QUILTERS The Quilters are continuing their labor of love creating quilts at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. All are welcome to help with this annual project to provide warmth and love for those in need around the world.

Lutheran World Relief SOAP - LWR is asking that soap donations include only new bars of any brand of soap, in its original wrapping. In the past, LWR has accepted new & used bars of soap, homemade soap, and soap slivers. Partner agencies overseas have more and more begun asking for only the new bars to facilitate easier and more uniform distribution. LWR is deeply grateful for the commitment of people who over the years have carefully collected, dried, and made soap for people all over the world. Even though the soap standards have changed, we still need much help in reaching our overseas neighbors. We appreciate your continued efforts of the LWR parish projects. QUILTS - A Lutheran World Relief quilt is special! It brings warmth on a cold night, shelter from the sun on a hot day. It becomes a bed, a room divider, a backpack to carry belongings, and at times even a home. Quilts distributed by LWR to refugees and other people in need were first made by recycling old but good clothes, blankets, and other items. Most LWR quilts are still made this way, although fabric samples, remnants, or other new pieces of fabric are also used. Each quilt is one of a kind, with a beauty all its own, made as a gift of hope by caring people. How to make a quilt - Quilts are easy to make. Place a piece of fabric measuring 64" x 84" on top, place a filler measuring 60" x 80" on top, then place another piece of fabric, also measuring 60" x 80" on top of the filler. Tie the three layers together, using crochet or similar cord (18 to 24 ties depending on the type of fabric or the quilts design). Bring the edges of the 64" x 84" piece over the top, pin and machine-stitch the edge, using a zigzag stitch if possible. Finished quilts should measure appox. 60" x 80" and weigh about four to five pounds. Heavy fabric, such as a quilted bedspread, needs only a back added (no filler). Good used sheets may also serve as a back. "I had nothing to cover my body with, and now I am covered with love as well," said one man who had walked several miles to thank a partner in India for giving him a LWR quilt.
