CROP Hunger Walk

We Walk Because They Walk

It's coming up fast!  The annual CROP Hunger Walk is on Sunday, October 12th, at 1:30 p.m. (registration at 12:45 p.m.) and will begin at Christ Presbyterian Church on Sherman Avenue in Madison.

(CROP is not marking or sponsoring a bike route in 2008, but if people want to bike they may do so at their own risk and liability.)  The money raised will go to Dane County Food Pantries and Meals On Wheels.  Contact Cyndi Voeck to sign up, 837-6151 or cvoeck@verizon.net.

All participants raising $300 or more will receive a free CROP T-shirt.  If participants bring their completed pledge form and money to the walk on 10/12, they will receive a shirt to wear on that day.  Others will be notified after the walk that they qualified to receive a T-shirt.  T-shirts may also be purchased for $10 each.

A huge THANK YOU to the following business sponsors that helped make this possible:  St. Mary's Hospital, Roundy's Inc., and Affiliated Dentists.

LABELS, CAPS, & BOX TOPS

for Westside School

 LABELS – Campbell’s labels

CAPS – either purple with a cow or "Nickels for Schools" with a cow

BOX TOPS for Education – from cereals, flour, some prepared foods, toilet-paper, etc. These are worth $.10 each.

Many products have them but people don't realize it. LOOK FOR THEM and deposit them in the box that’s located on the table in the narthex (bottom shelf).  Ann Schwanke will take them to Westside School.

Ann is also taking the Sentry receipts to Sentry for a 1% reimbursement in the “Funds for Friends” program.  Every so often we receive a check from Sentry.  Then Bristol Lutheran Church turns around and gives the money to the SUN PRAIRIE EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY.  You may ask, “What’s my part?”  Ask for a ‘sticker’ upon checkout at Sentry, which the cashier will place on your receipt.  Then bring the receipts to church and place them in the box provided in the narthex.

Likewise, the “We Care” program at Pick’n Save gives back 1% which BLC gives to the pantry.  In this program you do a one-time registry at the service desk using your Pick’n Save card (our charity code number is 074000) and the percentage is automatically earmarked for BLC.  When we receive a check from them, we give all of the money to the pantry.

LET’S PLAY!

Partners in Parenting Family Resource Center would like to announce their new Play Group for young children and their parents or caregivers.  The Play Group will be on Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  It will take place at the Joining Forces for Families office located at 509 Commercial Avenue, Sun Prairie.  Snacks and toys are provided.

      For more information call 608-278-8167.

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED

Dane County is currently experiencing a crisis in the foster care system.  The Foster Care Unit of Dane County works with children ages 0 – 18 who are in need of temporary out-of-home placement.  Currently, there are approximately 400 children in foster care; we only have 250 foster homes.  We have an especially great need to find homes willing to take sibling groups, teenagers, and emergency placements.

Singles and couples can become foster parents.  You may be employed outside of the home.  Compensation ranges, depending on the needs of the child.  Training and support are provided.

Becoming a foster parent is not a lifetime commitment.  Many foster parents provide respite care for children, sometimes only two days per month.  Even in that short time, you will have made a lasting impact on that child.

Call the Dane County Foster Care Recruitment Line at 608-242-NEED (6333) for more info.
