May God bless & guide them as they grow in his love.

CONFIRMATION PROGRAM

Purpose:   "Confirmation is a pastoral and educational ministry of the church which helps the baptized member through Word and Sacrament to identify more deeply with the Christian community and participate more fully in it's mission."  Bristol Lutheran Church Constitution, Section 1, Paragraph 2, Page 1, Bylaws

CHANGE IN CONFIRMATION

Our Confirmation program is changing at Bristol Lutheran to accommodate the changing needs of our children and families.  The curriculum requirements will remain the same but the age children start confirmation will change from 7th – 9th grade to 6th – 8th grade.   The 6th grade confirmation class will meet during regular Sunday School times.  In 7th and 8th grade, confirmation classes will be on Wednesday night during the school year.

On January 7th during Sunday School there will be a 6th grade parent meeting to give an introduction to the confirmation requirements and answer any questions you might have.  We will meet in the sanctuary at 10:00 a.m.

Our new confirmation program includes additional opportunities for all children at Bristol Lutheran to learn more about God through the God and Country awards program.  The God and Country program was developed by an ecumenical group to provide youth organizations and churches with a nationally recognized awards based program.

The God and Country program is set up for parent and child to learn and share faith together.  It is an independent study course that you complete at your own pace.  When the child is done they will receive a certificate and medallion.

There are four awards divided by age group:  God and Me, 1-3 grade; God and Family, 4-5 grade; God and Church, 6-8 grade; and God and Life, 9-12grade.  Each award is independent from the others, so you simply start with your grade level and work your way towards the God and Life award.

It is widely used in Lutheran churches and by such organization as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H.  The God and Life award is recognized nationally by colleges and is an important addition to anyone’s college scholarship applications.

Look for more information about this optional program to be handed out in Sunday School after the new year.  If you would like your children to get started now, please contact Pastor Jon.
